Yes, if you hold a residence permit and intend to stay in France after it expires. Temporary workers, visitors, au pairs and interns are not eligible for the multi-year card.
No later than 2 months before your card expires. Students can start 4 months before.
Online on ANEF for the categories it covers, otherwise at the préfecture or sub-préfecture where you live.
€250 to renew a multi-year card in general, and €100 in the student and family-life categories.
- If you apply online you get a digital acknowledgement of deposit straight away.
- If the application is accepted, the préfecture tells you the card is ready and you collect it.
A first multi-year card asks for A2 French and a pass in the civic exam, unless you are 65 or over. It runs 4 years in general, up to 4 years for students, and a maximum of 2 years in the family-life category.
