What is it
The residence card that takes over when your student VLS-TS runs out, covering the rest of your course rather than one year at a time.
Do I need it
Yes, if you are a non-European student staying on to study after your long-stay visa expires.

At the earliest 4 months and at the latest 2 months before your current visa or permit expires.

Cost
€150 — a €100 tax plus €50 stamp duty. Applying after your document has expired adds a €180 regularisation fee.
What happens next
- You receive a digital acknowledgement of deposit as soon as you submit.
- If the application is accepted, the préfecture tells you the card is ready and you collect it from the préfecture or sub-préfecture.
