What is it
The procedure a non-European resident of France uses to ask for their spouse and minor children to be allowed to join them here.
Do I need it
Only if your family is outside France and you hold a qualifying residence document. The prefect decides; meeting the conditions is not a guarantee of approval.
When
Once you have held a qualifying residence document and lived in France for at least 18 months.
Where · mixed
The file goes to the OFII, online or by registered post. The mairie checks the housing and resources, and the prefect takes the decision.

The completed cerfa application form
Full birth certificates and your marriage certificate, with translations where needed
Proof of your income over the last 12 months
Proof of housing that meets the size and comfort conditions for your family
How long
The decision must be notified to you within 6 months of filing a complete file. No answer after 6 months counts as a refusal.
What happens next

- The mairie inspects the accommodation and checks your resources, then the prefect decides.
- If it is granted, your family applies for their visa at the French consulate in their country.
- After they arrive, the OFII medical visit and the residence card are handled in France.
