What is it
The document showing where you live. For a residence permit application the prefecture asks for one less than 6 months old.
Do I need it
Yes. Permit files, bank accounts, driving procedures and health cover all ask for one, and each procedure sets its own rules on what it accepts.
When
Whenever a procedure asks for it. Get a current one rather than reusing an old file.
Where · mixed
From whoever bills or houses you: your energy or telecoms supplier, your landlord, or the person putting you up.
Documents
If you rent or own: an electricity, gas, water, landline or internet bill, the lease, or a rent receipt
If you live in a hotel: the hotelier's attestation and the last month's invoice
If someone puts you up: their dated and signed attestation, a copy of their ID or residence permit, and proof of their own address
