What is it
A numéro fiscal is the 13-digit number the tax authority knows you by, and the espace particulier on impots.gouv.fr is the account where you declare, pay and download your notices.
Do I need it
Yes, once you have to declare income in France. The number is also asked for by other administrations and by landlords.
When
Set the account up once you have a numéro fiscal. If you have never declared in France, the number comes out of your first declaration.
Where · mixed
Online on impots.gouv.fr. If you have no numéro fiscal yet, your identity is checked at your local centre des finances publiques or by post.

What happens next
Create your espace particulier on impots.gouv.fr →
- You choose an email address and a password, then click the link sent to you — impots.gouv.fr gives you 8 hours to do it.
- If you had no numéro fiscal, you are emailed once your identity is checked and can then create the account with your number and date of birth.
- You can also sign in through FranceConnect instead of the impots.gouv.fr credentials.
