Working on a residence permit

A permission to employ a non-EU worker. Several residence permits carry it already, so no separate request is made; others require the employer to ask for one first.

It depends on your permit. Service-public lists "vie privée et familiale", "talent", "recherche d'emploi/création d'entreprise" and the resident card among those that exempt the employer from asking.

Before the job starts. The employer applies, not you.

Online only, on the employer portal of the ANEF service run by the Ministère de l'Intérieur.

The source page states that no reply within 2 months counts as a refusal.

Nothing for you. Where an autorisation de travail is issued the employer owes a tax, which varies with the contract and the salary.

• The prefecture of the department where the employer is established decides.
• The employer is notified, and the job can begin once the authorisation is granted.
• A student permit covers paid work without a separate authorisation up to the ceiling the source page gives as 964 hours a year, or 60% of the legal annual working time; going beyond it means the employer applies.
• The rules are different for Algerian students, who are covered by a separate agreement — check the student page before you take a job.

An authorisation is tied to the job and the permit it was granted against. Changing employer or status can mean a fresh request.
